Tonight saw the first of my three most difficult goodbyes, every second coated warmly with street-side flowers, plates laden with tacos, and raucous laughter. I am deeply blessed. Today disappeared suddenly in a haze of miniature coffees, note-writing, garden conversations, basketball, and windows-down nighttime driving, stars winking over mountaintops. Like a pendulum, I swing from certain and strong to meek and afraid. If ever time would stop completely, this is the moment I’d choose.
